We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Travel Accounting Manager to join the Accounting division of our Finance and Administration group at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems located in Poway, Ca. This position is responsible for managing the daily operations of a Travel Accounting department, which includes overseeing disbursements to employees and travel-related vendors. A successful team member must be adaptable and flexible to constant changing business requirements in both a technical and non-technical environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and directs travel accounting activities to ensure timely and accurate payments using established guidelines, procedures, and policies.

  • Contributes extensively to automation of manual processes, establishment of internal preventative and detective controls and the continued implementation of the Concur Travel & Expense (T&E) travel management system

  • Formulates policies, plans and schedules for the department, conduct quality control audits and evaluate work standards to ensure uniformity and effectiveness.

  • Contributes to the design of operational procedures and processes that meet audit standards and improve efficiency while assuring appropriate segregation of duties and internal controls.

  • Assigns tasks, reviews work, and provides direction to staff while ensuring travel accounting objectives are met within established timelines

  • Participates in annual audits and special projects.

  • May represent the department with internal and/or external representatives.

  • Develops, modifies and executes company travel policies and procedures.

  • May prepare balance sheet and profit and loss statements, consolidated financial statements, and/or maintain accounting systems to ensure adequate recognition of financial transactions.

  • Maintains up to date, accurate documentation and reports to reflect travel accounting activities.

  • Oversees review and validation of travel account codes to ensure costs are properly recorded and in compliance with Company policies, Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulation, and all other applicable laws and regulations.

  • Manages and participates in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of human resources to ensure the availability of the required professional talent.

  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Builds cross-functional partnerships and strategies to drive continuous program and process improvements.

  • Analyzes and distributes periodic travel compliance reports; Creates and develops executive summary reports.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline and eleven or more years of progressively complex experience in finance/accounting with at least five of those years in management. Must have experience in a commercial or government contractor environment. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.

  • Must have a proven and detailed understanding of accounting principles, regulations and practices as well as a complete understanding of FAS, CAS and FAR.

  • Must have proven leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines.

  • Must possess the ability to resolve complex management and technical problems.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills along with good interpersonal skills are required.

  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.

  • Considerable knowledge of MS Office with strong working knowledge of excel.

  • Knowledge/experience with ERP business systems is desired (SAP preferable).

  • Experience with SAP ECC AP Module highly desirable.

  • Proven ability to evaluate work processes and implement measurable improvements in performance is desired.

  • Strong Concur T&E system experience in a Government contractor environment is desirable.
