We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Composite Tool Designer to join our Manufacturing Department at GA-ASI, located in San Diego, CA.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all tooling/engineering activities in the design and construction of new tools and modifying existing tools in manufacturing.
Designs a wide variety of tools, fixtures and components, including cutting and forming tools.
Understands composite tooling theory and the selection of appropriate tooling material for the application and/or production volume required.
Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff, makes technical presentations and may represent the organization as the prime technical contact on tooling related projects.
Responsible for working with personnel throughout the company to help resolve any engineering related tooling issue that may impact the manufacturing delivery schedule.
Analyzes requirements and makes recommendations for facility and value stream design and processes
Investigate manufacturing problems and recommend corrective action.
Develops and maintains Tool Design and Drawing Standards.
Demonstrates a knowledge of and commitment to Lean Manufacturing principles and techniques.
Participate in product design reviews with emphasis on design for manufacturing.
Studies specifications and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost of tools.
Prepare drawings, engineering changes, specifications and inspection standards.
Facilitate weekly project updates to management, and engage frequently with engineers.
Resolve product design problems in conjunction with technical customer representatives and assist in implementation of resolutions
Interfaces daily with various departments at various technical and management levels.
Provides timely and quality service to both internal and external customers.
Typically requires a high school diploma and five or more years of experience.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering highly desired.
Experience using NX and CREO highly desired
Experience in all aspects of drafting techniques and skills using 3D CAD solid modeling desired
Certificate from a recognized organization certifying completion of a training program utilizing technical engineering software applications
Knowledge of ANSI, Dimensioning & Tolerance to AS ME-Y14.5 2009 or more recent required
Ability to read blueprints and use measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
Exposure to various composite manufacturing processes and tooling concepts.
Fibersim software desired.
Design experience, preferably in an aerospace tooling environment is desired.
