This position is for a Systems Performance Engineer for EMS programs who transforms system descriptions into kinematics, constraints and dynamics. The goal is to produce a model of the system’s performance that is accurate based on mathematical and physical derivation and tuned with data derived from testing. Performance modeling will be utilized in the design, development and optimization of the Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) system. This includes a broad spectrum of research activities from the use of empirical methods through the use of simulations and mathematical derivations. Complex algorithms will be analyzed and a large amount of data processing work will be automated to streamline the calculation of key performance parameters. Optimal control will be determined, scheduling will be simulated, stochastic processing will be performed and rare-events will be modeled and analyzed. This work has played a critical role in the understanding of important problems in the design, development and management of this complex system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Systems Performance Modeler should understand the importance of performance modeling during all phases of the product lifecycle and how to create effective requirements for performance. Knowledge of how to define and use metrics, plan for diverse workloads, evaluate scalability, capacity and responsiveness, along with how to test the model is important.
Obtain high level knowledge of the system including hardware, software, operating systems and middleware.
Knowledge of probability, random variables, convergence, scalability and control systems is valuable to the position.
Assist in defining, documenting and communicating the performance model ensuring that the team is using it correctly, stages its development and tuning in a timely fashion so progress can be made before it is complete, ensures that management understands the model and analysis to the detail necessary, as well as interacting with all stakeholders to ensure their needs are being met, resolving technical problems and disputes, and makes tradeoffs.
Assist in planning and coordinating the maintenance of solutions including debugging, maintenance, and updating to ensure viability in an evolving environment.

Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in mechanical engineering, mathematics, physics or related discipline and progressive system model development and analysis experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, four or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.
Demonstrated project and/or program leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.
Must possess the ability to contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be an expert in one or more areas of software development.
Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced software development problems.
Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
Able to work extended hours as required.
