We have an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineering Manager to join our Lasers and Advanced Sensors (LAS) team located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

We are seeking a high-performance individual capable of providing overall coordination of the LAS tracking systems, controls, and modeling and simulation development activities, imaging systems, engineering resources, and processes for ongoing/future programs. These systems include airborne, ship, ground, and space based active and passive multi-spectral EO/IR cameras and tracking systems, high fidelity engagement, sensor and algorithm modeling and simulation, and control system methods. The primary role will be devoted to leading tracking system development programs while the secondary role will be to manage the team of engineers in these areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring tracker and control system development and deployment of all of LAS sensor and weapon systems in a multi-disciplinary team environment meets our performance, schedule, and cost objectives. The successful candidate will be familiar with state-of-the-art imaging tracking systems, high fidelity scene simulation and modeling, control algorithm, and embedded high-performance computing and software and capable of assigning appropriate resources to the various program needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct technical support to projects by developing innovative approaches to complex engineering problems including architecture development, SW implementation, testing, and field demonstrations/verification.

  • Direct activities for assigned software engineering project(s) including planning and managing technical performance to ensure quality, business, and financial objectives are attained.

  • Ensure proper engineering discipline is implemented, and GA-EMS engineering processes are followed.

  • Develop and implement current, annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business, and financial objectives for the engineering unit(s) and may also participate in the development of Group/Company objectives.

  • Lead and coordinate tracking system architecture development.

  • Provide specification of tracking system requirements.

  • Manage small team of Engineers and Scientists engaged in this work.

  • Coordinate engineering resources and processes.

  • Provides expertise in delivering tracking software solutions to the field.

  • Support field tests

  • Represent GA-EMS LAS SWIPE group to customers internal and external on technical approach and schedule

  • Provide technical documents on design and performance analyses.

  • Provide software effort estimation and proposal technical inputs.

  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s).

  • Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by directing and participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent.

  • Enhance the LAS Software team including hiring, retention, training and mentoring, and administrative management in support of a diverse set of technology and project pursuits.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors, masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as thirteen or more years of software engineering experience with at least seven of those years in management. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.

  • Knowledge of ruggedized high performance embedded computing architectures including GPGU and System-on-a-chip processor architectures.

  • Knowledge of scene modeling and simulation methodologies for tracker development is required.

  • Working knowledge of C and C++ is required.

  • Extensive knowledge of Matlab and associated toolboxes is required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of camera design, radiometry, and optical systems is required.

  • Must demonstrate: (1) an in-depth technical expertise in software development including applicable engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practices; (2) excellent project management and leadership skills that include organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones; and, (3) the ability to resolve unusually complex management and technical problems.

  • Must possess demonstrated management experience building and developing highly effective teams and staff.

  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.

  • Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
