We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to work within our energy and advanced concepts group. Under general supervision with detailed instructions and intermittent review this position assists with fabrication operations in our Nuclear Technologies & Materials (NTM) division.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Uses a laboratory fume hood to dispense chemicals and carry out chemical reactions.
Operates laboratory furnaces to process materials from their initial to final state.
Documents tasks performed, processing conditions and unexpected anomalies in laboratory notebooks.
Troubleshoots equipment and performs repairs under supervision of lead technicians.
Follows protocols for routine analyses to assess performance of fabricated items.
Works with machine mills, lathes and welders.
Assists engineering staff and lead technicians in manufacturing development activities for NTM.
Keeps a clean and organized work area that will be shared by a team of fellow technicians and engineers.
Maintains a safe working environment and works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Works in a lab environment requiring long periods of standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Monitors all operations for regulatory and safety compliance.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Typically requires high school diploma or equivalent with one or more years of experience.
Strong attention to detail.
Experience working with and troubleshooting vacuum systems, chambers, pumps, etc. is desirable.
Must be able to work with common hand tools.
Must be able to perform a variety of routine tasks and demonstrate a good working knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures.
Ability and willingness to work on systems which have unusual conditions such as high pressure, high voltage, high energy, cryogens, or radioactive materials.
Works with radiological materials, chemicals, and gases, must be able to perform duties with confidence while wearing personal protective equipment.
