We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to supervise our Materials and Process engineering team. This is a dynamic role that will interface initially with our design teams and provide guidance throughout the completion of the manufacturing process. The ideal candidate with have experience focused in metal materials and have an understanding Naval aerospace standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct the work of Engineers and Technicians and oversee their output for consistency and accuracy

  • Plan and schedule work assignments for the team. Monitor project schedules, timelines and deliverables using standard project management tools and engineering systems

  • Act as the primary contact for the team; serve as the liaison in providing status across engineering and other internal teams

  • Assure that internal and customer needs are identified and addressed

  • Provide technical guidance to team members and reviews the accuracy and completeness of assignments.

  • Define individual accountability and milestones to meet project objectives. Communicates performance expectations and provides assistance to resolve problems encountered by the team. May participate or lead design reviews with internal teams or customers

  • Monitor and maintain budgetary controls; allocate resources and make recommendations on the acquisition and use of equipment, systems, or other capital expenditures

  • Makes recommendations on human resources actions (e.g. staffing, training, compensation, etc.)

  • Mentor or serve as a resource to share specialized knowledge with others

  • Over see Research, design, develop and create detail drawings and parts lists for mechanical test setups and test systems such as for lab environmental/flight testing of aircraft components.

  • Plan and conduct structural and mechanical tests and test programs

  • Design test fixtures as needed to characterize materials and hardware designs for aerospace applications

  • Select components, set-up and operate test instrumentation including strain gages, load cells, airflow sensors, displacement sensors, etc

  • Assist in assembly and integration of hardware to be tested

  • Supervise and work with technicians on mechanical testing

  • Perform tests of mechanical assemblies to insure compliance with product specifications

  • Write test procedures and reports

  • Plan, conduct and document tests in accordance with aerospace specifications

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, thirteen or more years of experience with a masters degree, or ten or more years with a PhD

  • Has thorough technical knowledge applicable to the team’s engineering specialty, products, engineering applications, and tools to effectively advise and guide the team

  • Effective interpersonal and formal communication and presentation skills; ability to provide coaching and maintain open communication within the team and with other business areas

  • Ability to guide and develop the team through effective feedback, recognition, skill assessment, and training.

  • Thorough understanding of industry and regulatory standards and compliance requirements

  • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership

  • Prior experience with maritime materials and finishes to minimize the impact of corrosion

  • Prior welding engineering experience
