GA’s Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Group focuses on the military and commercial applications of advanced electromagnetic technologies, including power generation and distribution, magnetic levitation, laser and weapons systems, and systems design and engineering. The EMS Group supports government customers, which include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation as well as a range of commercial customers.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer in our EMS Advanced Projects Manufacturing Operations group.
With limited direction, this position exercises considerable latitude for initiating and developing plans, procedures, techniques and solutions to resolving advanced technical manufacturing problems in GA EMS programs/projects such as missile defense systems, lasers, advanced sensors, and other emerging advanced technologies. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of broad specifications, objectives, possible results anticipated and critical reference points requiring special attention. Guides the successful resolution of manufacturing problems, serves as a consulting resource of engineering knowledge, applies the latest technological advancements to the problem, and may function in a project leadership role. This candidate will document findings, communicate results to engineering staff, make technical presentations, and may represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small identifiable projects. He or she will provide direction to manufacturing or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for providing construction/manufacturing engineering support to GA EMS programs/projects, such as missile defense systems, lasers, advanced sensors, and advanced technology development. Expected to develop innovative but practical solutions to advanced technical problems in manufacturing engineering and to design engineers to enhance manufacturability.
Provide focal point for technical communication within the Company management and may represent the Company as the prime technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies.
Present report(s) at engineering meetings, participate in program reviews and consults on problems.
Address complex and difficult technical issues requiring novel and highly creative approaches drawing on advanced engineering concepts.
Directs activities of design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.
Identify, investigate, analyze and resolve routine manufacturing engineering issues at both GA EMS manufacturing facilities and sub-tier suppliers.
Initiate and implement assigned production-related design changes. Conduct manufacturing reviews of engineering specifications and drawings.
Assist in and/or monitor the design and development process by coordinating between various engineering and manufacturing departments. Alert planning department to open engineering issues that may affect manufacturing.
Applies basic technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned routine engineering problems.
Perform functional testing of equipment and systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
Develop and coordinate shop order travelers and work instructions for production. May assist with development of tooling and fixtures to support manufacturing activities.
Develop and updates manufacturing aide for new and existing processes and equipment.
Conduct periodic program engineering/manufacturing planning meetings.
Review engineering specifications and drawings. Confer across functional areas to provide and obtain technical information. Able to assist design engineers and CAD/CAM/CMM programmers in resolving model changes for manufacturability.
Use analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, evaluate, and resolve engineering related production problems related to manufacturing, design, quality and material engineering.
Responsible for creating and maintaining detailed work instructions and manufacturing procedures.
Coordinate Manufacturing Service Request activities by resolving priority schedule conflicts.
Coordinate delivery schedule of contractor supplied raw materials and sub-assemblies.
Review and monitor program development progress and expedite critical path components and processes to maintain schedule.
Process and track all Engineering Change Request (ECR) activities to include development and maintenance of all ECRs received, pending and completed.
Receive and route Non-Conformance Reports for disposition. Route Supplier Disposition Requests to engineering. Route and track Request for Engineering Assistance from purchasing to engineering for disposition.
Generate liens lists, as-built drawings lists, and production summaries and resolve issues with quality data packages to support hardware delivery.
Contribute to process and procedure improvements for the department.
Travel to Tupelo, MS facility and/or suppliers as needed to support production needs
Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
Expected to maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education. Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership. Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
Desire knowledge in current versions of SolidWorks and MasterCAM.
Strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other professionals, the production of appropriate documentation, and the presentation of results to a limited internal audience. Must be able to effectively use MS Office, specifically Excel and Project applications, to execute and track work activities.
Multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge in mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, cryogenic, and optical systems is desired.
Must have a general knowledge of production and engineering support and quality management principles and concepts and a general understanding of practices, techniques, and standards.
Must be customer-focused and possess the ability to use independent analysis and judgment in developing manufacturing solutions to a variety of non-routine problems of moderate scope and complexity.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, and invited to present one or more original works to an engineering symposium are desirable.
