We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Project Engineer to join our GA-EMS team located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

As a member of the construction/manufacturing engineering department, the primary task is to oversee and facilitate the delivery of all hardware and documentation required by the respective contract. This requires proactive planning, monitoring, and management of ongoing and future production efforts. The project engineer is the primary POC for understanding the current state of a production effort and provides support with respect to schedule, cost, and technical issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for providing construction/manufacturing engineering support to GA EMS programs/projects, such as CVN 79 EMALS/AAG production, CVN 80 EMALS/AAG LLTM, JCTS and RALS, high voltage capacitors, radiation monitoring systems and Gulftronic separator systems.

  • Utilizes extensive knowledge and application of manufacturing and construction techniques to facilitate on-time delivery of contract deliverables.

  • Utilizes knowledge of production planning, scheduling, budgeting and performance measurement systems (and their respective applications) to support the Control Account Manager(s).

  • Reads and understands contractual documents to implement solutions that meet all requirements across multiple programs.

  • Organizes and clearly communicates technical issues and solutions in verbal and written formats.

  • Effectively uses MS Office and Project applications to execute daily work activities.

  • Performs hand calculations to justify solutions to technical issues.

  • Generates and executes plans for on-time production deliveries.

  • Coordinates delivery schedule of raw materials, subassemblies and required manufacturing/quality documentation from vendors.

  • Monitors and reports on progress of material and manufactured parts availability.

  • Identifies issues in engineering and manufacturing and utilizes functional resources (such as design, quality and procurement) for resolution.

  • Works with the quality department to ensure adequate controls are in place and all necessary documentation is generated and archived to support product delivery.

  • Reviews engineering specifications and drawings.

  • Confers across functional areas to provide and obtain technical information.

  • Assists in and/or monitors the design and development process by coordinating between various engineering and manufacturing departments.

  • Monitors and analyzes open engineering issues affecting purchase orders.

  • Alerts planning department to open engineering issues that may affect manufacturing.

  • Generates shop order travelers and work instructions for production, rework or repair procedures.

  • Uses enterprise tools such as SAP and Windchill to process quality notification and purchase requisitions.

  • Travels to suppliers and manufacturing facility as needed to expedite production progress.

  • May conduct periodic program engineering/manufacturing planning meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders, and subcontractors to ensure production progresses on schedule and all contractual requirements are met.

  • Ability to understand engineering concepts and discuss and resolve manufacturing issues with internal and external stakeholders, including government employees.

  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.

  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.

  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and, lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.

  • Able to work extended hours as required.

  • A Professional Engineering License is desirable
