We have an exciting opportunity for a CNC Machinist (2nd shift) to join our Machine Shop at GA-ASI, located in Poway, CA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform complex functions related to machine tools. Set up and operate all types of lathes, mills or grinders to machine developmental, production or maintenance parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions. This includes basic manual machine operation.
Must demonstrate ability to operate CNC lathes and mills. Must have working knowledge of M- codes & G-codes. Should be comfortable to edit CNC program if required. A full understanding of tool offsets & compensation’s is preferred.
Knowledge and experience setting up and machining parts on Mori Seiki ZT1500, Mori Seiki NT 4250 dual spindle CNC turn/mill and Mazak Integrex CNC lathe strongly preferred.
Review engineering drawings from sketches, graphic illustrations or verbal/written correspondence to plan sequence of operations. Compute angular and linear dimensions; determine cutting or grinding tools to be used, method of holding, and machine speeds and feeds.
Improvise, adapt and design standard tooling; perform such typical operations as turning, facing, boring; machine compound angles, multiple angles.
A strong working knowledge of the most current cutting tools is favorable. Able to grind own cutting tools, drills and bits, when required.
Perform all types of helical and spiral milling, drilling, reaming, boring, tapping, slotting, and dovetailing on ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys.
Perform preventative maintenance.
Keep machines and work area, both clean & safe.
Lift, cut, load and secure raw stock into machining equipment.
Candidate must be able to perform a variety of semi-routine tasks and demonstrate a good working knowledge related to machining.
Candidate must be computer literate with knowledge of applications related to machining. All time keeping & set-up instructions are available at all work centers. Must be able to read and understand blueprints.
Possess good interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills to interface effectively with other employees to seek clarification when appropriate on routine assignments.
Must be self-motivated, willing to multitask, and display a continued team attitude.
This facility operates on a 9/80 schedule.
Ability to work 2nd shift.
Typically requires an associate's degree, technical/trade school training or equivalent and four or more years related experience. Additional experience may be substituted for formal education.
Must be customer focused and possess:
(1) the ability to perform non-routine or moderately complex set-up and fabrication of machined parts with little direction;
(2) strong knowledge of machining equipment including ability to use judgment and safe practices;
(3) ability to read and understand engineering drawings, sketches, verbal and written instructions;
(4) skills to maintain the flow of work within the unit using independent judgment in solving non-routine problems and recommending solutions;
(5) strong interpersonal skills and written communication skills to interface with employees and management; and
(6) basic computer skills. The ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
Ability to work 2nd shift.
