We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Contract Closeout Specialist to join the Accounting division of our Finance and Administration group at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems located in Poway, Ca. This position, with general direction is responsible for performing final reconciliation and invoicing for contract closeouts and other accounting support tasks in an Accounts Receivable (AR) department.


  • Performs review of contracts and performs complex government billing and support tasks in an Accounts Receivable department.

  • Prepares analysis of inception to date contract costs and prepares final invoices into government payment systems (SAP).

  • Reviews contracts and contract briefs to ensure invoice compliance with contract.

  • Coordinates and participates in the research and analysis of accounting and financial data.

  • Provides monthly analysis of contract closeout progress and schedule to complete.

  • Updates and maintains invoice reconciliations, accounting journals, ledgers, and other records detailing accounts receivable financial business.

  • Performs analysis and reporting for assigned projects and/or programs.

  • Ensures compliance with departmental and company policies and procedures.

  • Verifies accuracy of accounting documents or records.

  • Ensures accounting files and records are accurate and up to date.

  • Compiles data and prepares a variety of highly complex reports. May present findings to professional staff and/or management.

  • Provides resolutions to discrepancies and investigates questionable data.

  • Interfaces frequently with outside representatives, government personnel and/or senior level internal contacts.

  • Recommends improvements and/or changes to processing methods and techniques.

  • May act as primary contact for inquiries from internal and external representatives.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a high school diploma and four or more years of progressive experience in an accounting department or a related field. May substitute additional experience in lieu of education.

  • Must have strong knowledge of computer operations and applications and proficiency with spreadsheets.

  • Organizes, schedules, and coordinates work phases.

  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly.

  • Determines the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of difficult problems.

  • Must have good communication, documentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of MS Office with strong working knowledge of excel.

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and capable of effectively interacting with professional staff.

  • Knowledge/experience with ERP business systems is desired (SAP preferable).

  • Able to work extended hours as required.

  • Prior billing experience with Cost Reimbursable, Fixed Fee, T&M and Progress Payments in government contracting environment desired.
