We are seeking an experienced candidate with a proven background in IT cable plant services and technical support operations. This position will be part of team supporting both inside and outside cable plant operations across a large enterprise Network environment. This role is part of an enterprise IT solutions and service delivery organization. This position will interface directly with internal (IT) and external (enterprise) customers.

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing and maintaining a variety of technical assignments related to Cable Plant infrastructure including, but not limited to, structured cabling in production environments, structured cabling in construction environments, Outside Plant (OSP) cable systems required to support voice and data communication networks and systems. Supports senior staff with design, engineering, planning, and management of vendor and installation projects. Must possess cable plant background that enables understanding of basic construction code, structured cable plant fundamentals and data center and network architecture as well as the ability to maintain multiple parallel tasks with the ability to troubleshoot using appropriate diagnostic equipment.


  • Assists in planning and implementation of network cable and fiber connectivity solution programs and projects that adhere to approved plans, budgets and schedules.

  • Assist senior staff in technical evaluations and recommendations for proposals.

  • Must be able to manage multiple planning, RFP and cable plant construction schedules.

  • Oversees multiple smaller size projects with general supervision.

  • Coordinate pre-construction and construction schedules, phases, intervals and due dates of cable plant projects.

  • Maintain required records, documentation and liaises with outside vendors to order equipment and services as required. Manage document and record construction field changes.

  • Develop and maintain supply chain relationships. Ensure that contractors and vendors are delivering quality services and that all SLAs are being met.

  • Coordinate vendor installations, and upgrades of voice and data communications systems, cable plants, and related peripheral equipment systems.

  • Performs diagnostic tests on voice and data communications cable plant, equipment, networks, and systems and assists in resolving system integration issues.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires an associate’s degree and three or more years of IT cable plant experience in an enterprise environment. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.

  • Requires considerable knowledge of specific cable plant system components, test equipment, configuration and building construction practices.

  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and a good driving record, verifiable by the DMV.

  • Must be capable of using hand tools and electronics test equipment; climbing ladders and entering manholes; and identifying cable color codes.

  • Requires good communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational ability and the ability to work in both hi-volume team and independent conditions. Able to work extended hours as required.

  • Must have recent work experience in a cable plant installation environment, including structured cabling, fiber optic, and OSP.

  • Must be able to understand and read construction documents.

  • Familiar with basic concepts of OSP, such as quoting, construction and delivery.

  • Routinely support on-site surveys and field meetings required to ensure projects meet the delivery requirements and commitment dates identified.

  • Routinely participate in project meetings and effectively support the overall project effort.

  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, AutoCAD software and applications.

  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment, and customer service oriented.

  • Must be able to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment flexible to change.

  • Must be self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices

  • May require travel to support remote corporate facilities.

  • Able to work extended hours as required.

Desirable Qualifications/Skills:

  • BICSI and/or other industry standard certifications.

  • Familiarization and/or certification in Cable Plant background that enables understanding of basic construction code, structured cable plant fundamentals and data center and network architecture.

  • Project Management (PM) experience and/or familiarity with formal PM concepts.

  • Position typically requires continuing education with industry wide and vendor specific training.

  • Experience with IT Service Management system-ServiceNow, Remedy or similar.
