We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Specialist to join our Facilities Department located in Palmdale, CA.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Repairs, maintains, troubleshoots and installs electrical systems and equipment such as motors, transformers, wiring, switches, fuses, and alarm systems used for the distribution and utilization of electric energy in accordance with applicable building codes.
Installs electrical services for all building equipment and wiring including air compressors, A/C compressors, boilers, air handlers, machine tools, and pumps.
Measures resistance, voltage, and amperage.
Pulls wire and measures, cuts, bends and installs conduit.
Reads name plates, calculates feeder sizes and contacts manufacture if applicable to clarify any and all equipment specifications.
Performs new construction, layouts, fabrication and wiring of panel boards, branch circuits and feeders ensuring installation is properly sized and adheres to applicable codes.
May act as lead and provide direction to less experienced staff.
Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
May assist in other facility department operations such as plumbing, maintenance, carpentry, painting and other trades.
Performs other duties and assigned or required
Typically requires education al training equivalent to the completion of a two-year technical degree or trade school equivalency, as well as five or more years of progressive experience in operation, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
California State electrical certification is desirable.
Must have five or more years of progressive experience in electrical and lighting installation and repair.
Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
Must demonstrate considerable understanding of electrical principles, theories and concepts. Must possess: (1) a valid California driver’s license verified by the DMV; (2) complete knowledge of building and electrical codes, safety regulations, NFPA 70E awareness, title 24 requirements and local construction industry practices; (3) complete knowledge and use of electrical hand tools and voltage or amperage measuring and recording devices; (4) the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, layouts and other mechanical drawings as well as the ability to assess situations and make judgments that will impact the operation of the entire facility; and (5) excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document and report information while giving direction to less experienced staff.
Must have an advanced understanding of all commercial lighting controls, electrical codes, and be able to site the National Electrical code.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, bend conduit, pull wire, and install fixtures.
The ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work different shifts, workdays and extended hours as required
