We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer within the National Ignition Facility (NIF) Target Fabrication Group in Livermore, CA for General Atomics. Under general supervision with regular review, this position involves supporting production efforts in NIF Assembly.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the development and fielding of new equipment and processes into the production line.
Works with multiple interdisciplinary groups to transition equipment and processes from an engineering stage to repeatable production processes.
Responds to real time problems on the production floor and provides support until the problems are resolved.
Writes and updates programs for robots, automated microscopes, data acquisition systems, and optical coordinate measuring machines.
Works with vendors to provide hardware and software per contract. Runs assembly and/or metrology machines to meet production deadlines.
Performs development testing for various scientific and engineering working groups.
May direct the activities of technicians.
Works to improve production rates, efficiencies, and yields.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
Production experience desired.
Experience with programming languages to include visual basic, excel macros, LabVIEW, Measuremind, and others are desirable.
Must have a general understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Must have ability to understand production and work with production system to manage BOMS, non-conformance reports, SPC data, data packages, and recommend corrective actions.
Must be able to work extended hours as required.
Able to troubleshoot computer systems.
Desired experience in computer programming, data acquisition and interfacing to instrumentation.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE clearance.
