We are currently seeking applicants for an operations leader within the National Ignition Facility (NIF) Target Fabrication Group in Livermore, CA. The operations leader will ensure that the manufacturing floor is operating per expectations and schedule and assist in the development and programming of databases to improve the efficiency of the production activities.

This position exercises considerable latitude in the planning, development and administration of integrated production strategies, processes, and tools. Ensures that customer support requirements and objectives are achieved on schedule to meet NIF goals. Ensures continuous improvement of standard Production processes, such as supportability analysis planning, programming, and database development processes, product support and replenishment systems, product support data interchange systems, demand management and related functions. Responsible for building relationships with customers through production initiatives. Documents findings, communicates results to technical staff and management, and makes presentations of recommendations. May lead a team of less experienced professional staff. Position is hands-on and high bandwidth in a fast-paced custom design and manufacturing environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Determines production strategies and establishes standard production processes and tools.

  • Ensures production activities are in compliance with standard policies, procedures and processes.

  • Determines production activities for selected projects, including production planning, training, supply chain activities, warehousing, and order management. Ensures compliance with standard processes.

  • Develops innovative solutions to unusually complex production issues such as re-allocation of resources or modifying manufacturing or supply chain processes, and improvement and programming of the production database system(s)

  • Leads progress planning and review sessions to discuss costs, schedule, and technical performance.

  • May function in an advisory or leadership role and provide direction and guidance to less experienced professional staff.

  • Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

  • Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in business administration or related field along with ten or more years of progressive operations management experience with a bachelor's or eight or more years with a master's. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.

  • Must demonstrate an extensive understanding of production management concepts, techniques, and standards and have proven experience broadly applying those concepts.

  • Must possess: (1) the ability to contribute to the development of new processes or systems and communicate new concepts; (2) the ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop innovative solutions to a variety of complex issues, including production management information and supply chain activities matters; (3) excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings to a variety of audiences including senior management and senior external parties; (4) excellent interpersonal skills to influence and guide all levels of employees; (5) the ability to effectively and efficiently initiate, plan, and manage projects; (6) the ability to represent the company on external projects; and, (7) excellent computer and documentation skills.

  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
