We have an exciting opportunity for a Staff Electrical Systems Engineer at our General Atomics Systems Integration (GA-SI) group in Kaysville, UT. Under general supervision with limited review, this position is responsible for determining and developing effective approaches for resolving a wide range of difficult engineering problems.


  • Provides expert guidance and leadership to professional staff members working on difficult system engineering problems.

  • Provides electrical systems engineering services in support of aircraft modifications, system improvements, test systems, and structures.

  • Leads development of system solutions from concept, requirement development, design, analysis to prototype and qualification testing

  • Develops solutions in accordance with company and aerospace-industry requirements.

  • Utilizes past experience with electrical power control or motor control to develop solution(s) to advanced technical engineering problems.

  • Develops and provides oversight of system hardware and software functional diagrams, interactions of software, mechanical and electrical components, electrical schematics and electrical circuit designs.

  • Performs system modeling simulations utilizing software tools such as Matlab, Simulink, and Altium, integrated with mechanical systems.

  • Formulates, plans, and guides the development and implementation of engineering solution(s) including deployment, resource requirements, testing, documentation, integration and compliance and safety.

  • Ensures that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates are completed.

  • Develops or reviews engineering deliverables.

  • Participates in proposal efforts and assists in the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities.

  • Develops Statements of Work and supports engineering labor estimates.

  • Communicates effectively and professionally in all interactions through both written and verbal methods.

  • Provides focal point for technical communication within the Company management and may represent the Company as the prime technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies.

  • Plans, coordinates, and develops engineering solutions including, documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations.

  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of General Atomics. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance is required

  • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership. Specifically, demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following:

  • Requirement Development and Management

  • System Architecture and Design

  • System Verification and Validation

  • Model Based System Engineering

  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.

  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.

  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Able to work extended hours as required.
