We have an exciting opportunity for an Aerodynamicist/CFD Engineer to join our team located in Huntsville, AL.

We are seeking an individual with expertise in high-speed and/or low-speed aerodynamics and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to support development of complex systems and subsystems such as missiles, projectiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and launch vehicles. Successful candidates will join a dynamic organization focused on research, engineering, and development of prototype weapon systems, satellites, sensor systems, and commercial products. Areas of interest include: engineering level aeroprediction methodologies; CFD grid generation and flow field solutions including both Euler and full Navier-Stokes methods; vortex lattice methods and tools; analysis and optimization of airframes for external subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic aerodynamics; aeroheating analysis and optimization of thermal protection systems; CFD analysis of solid and liquid rockets and thrusters; and coupled 6-degree of freedom and CFD simulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop advanced aerospace systems while leading projects teams and programs.

  • Troubleshoot and advance existing systems.

  • Drive test activities while documenting and presenting results to internal and external customers.

  • Represents the organization as a prime technical contact within and engineering team for assigned project(s)/program(s).

  • Must function in an advisory or leadership role for a project/program and provide direction and guidance to less experienced professional staff or team of professional staff.

  • Formulates plans and guides the development and implementation of engineering solution(s) including deployment, resource requirements, testing, documentation, integration and compliance and safety.

  • Plans and coordinates the maintenance of engineering solutions including, documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations to ensure viability of the solution(s) in an evolving environment.

  • Plans for future applications of solutions based on new developments in engineering technology.

  • Participates in or may lead the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities.

  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the design, development, and test of weapons, aircraft, airframes, and propulsion systems is highly desired.

  • Must have a complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.

  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.

  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one engineering area; and, lead a team of less experienced professional employees on semi-routine tasks.

  • Able to work extended hours as required.

  • Must possess the ability to resolve complex management and technical problems.

  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.

  • Proficient with commercial and government grid generation tools (Pointwise, ANSA, etc.), scripting languages (Python, etc.), flow solvers (CFD++, Loci/CHEM, DPLR, OVERFLOW, etc.), and post-processing/visualization tools (Tecplot, ParaView, etc.)

  • Strong understanding of external aerodynamics across the subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flow regimes.

  • Experience working with parallel computing on clusters

  • Ability to work well within a small, multi-functional team

  • Ability to be flexible in work assignments, good multi-tasking ability, show strong initiative, and work effectively with minimal direct supervision.
